If only…
What’s more evocative than a smell that you attach to a memory, place, or thing to - a new car, grass after it rains, box fresh trainers. Why don’t brands create and package their own smell?
An idea. In a web banner. That you want to play with.
Nike are moving away from their midnight launches to release products on twitter with a first respond, first served basis. Brilliant from the pov that more people will be able to make a claim, it will build the nike community and act as a good fuel on the fire to get everyone buzzing every now and again.
On the flip side, the best ad in the world is a bunch of kids hanging out side a store at night. That’s pure brand fandom - i know there’s occasionally riots that steal the headlines, but that’s pretty infrequent. There’s something cool about having a real life presence on the street. You still need to pick your trainers up from the store, so all is not lost…
I DARE YOU NOT TO ALMOST CRY
Powerful idea, beautifully and soulfully executed. Pretty hard to feel warm towards a conglomerate like P&G, but this ad goes a long way. Huge props to all the W+K Portland team on this
The shift from big campaigns to continuos smaller interactions - both because that’s true to how human friendships are built, and because that’s truer to how brands fit into people’s lives. Although I’d suggest that there’s room for the big fuck off ideas as well, just like there are such moments when creating friendships.
ONLY because we can - The Liberation … Really great interactive music video/ short movie/ ad (trailer shown here - go to interactive experience here ). The best example of an interactive ‘ad’ i’ve seen in a while, simply because it doesn’t feel like an ad - it’s as a good as a music video or short film. The interaction is intuitive and natural to the film - allowing you interact only when you want, and at a few key plot moments. The music also plays along with the interaction, giving you prompts ‘as part of the song’ . And lastly, they’re proud of the product integration, proud of their clothes, so it doesn’t feel like marketing. They’ve added a pinterest social tab as well within the video. Really great all around! The only problem is, i searched for Only online and went to OnlyNY, another cool clothes brand. That’s a bit crap
F.B. used to recuit the entire cast of a Bollywood film.
Well, the film was only 5 minutes, and for Nissan cars, but still interesting how the car manufacturer used something culturally interesting, coupled with the tools for people to get involved, to create a bigger TV idea.
Coolest tweet I’ve seen in a while, simply cause it made me smile (sorry for the rhyme, that came across lame)
For me this represents the maturation of the digital age. At some point we’ll stop being so seduced by what technology could enable us to do, and focus more on what is simply the best thing to do, regardless of the options. Although clearly this is a strategic attack on FB and Twitter, but still…
